Paris-Sorbonne was a French university specialized in literature located in Paris 5th near the Luxembourg Gardens and Pantheon on the Left Bank. The Sorbonne, one of the oldest universities in Europe founded in Paris by Robert de Sorbon in 1257, facing the Luxembourg Garden. Paris became a major scientific and cultural center in Europe with more than 20,000 students. Robert de Sorbon the chaplain of Saint Louis born in Sorbon in 1201, died in Paris in 1274. The Sorbonne, of which he was the first headmaster, was to allow poor school children to have access to education.
